What is a cam site?
A cam site is a live stage where performers stream from their own webcams and you watch, chat and play along in real time. Unlike a video you could replay over and over, everything on a cam is happening now: she reads your message, laughs at your joke, reacts to your tip. That live connection is what makes cams so addictive, and the best platforms add tools that make it even more intimate, from private shows to Cam2Cam, interactive toys you can control and even VR.

The three kinds of cam sites
Sex cam sites may all look like a grid of live thumbnails, but they come in three flavors, and each one creates a different kind of evening.
Free-to-watch token sites
Chaturbate, Stripchat, BongaCams and MyFreeCams belong to this family. Public rooms are open, the atmosphere is social and lively, and performers earn tips sent in tokens. You spend only when you feel like it: a tip to make her smile, a spy peek, a private session, a fan club. Performers set their own private rates, so every room has its own style.
The free side is real. MyFreeCams says guests can watch every model as long as they want, without nag screens. Stripchat invites you to join free and create a free account to interact. BongaCams keeps public text chat with models free, and Chaturbate’s Terms make viewing free of charge.
Premium private-show sites
LiveJasmin, Streamate and ImLive lean toward paid one-on-one time. The mood is more intimate and polished: you browse free previews, then take a performer private, often with extras like two-way audio and video calls. LiveJasmin sells credits and lists Free Chat next to Private Chat, VIP Show and Video Call, with a homepage price filter running from 0.01-0.98 to 9.99+ (the unit is not printed there; in the rooms, prices show as credits per minute).
Streamate’s own pages load only in JavaScript, but its sitemap confirms a Gold shows section, and ImLive is described by third-party reviews as credit-based, with private shows often starting around $1.00 per minute.
Matchmaking sites
The newest family helps you find the right performer before you even start browsing. Jerkmate is the best-known example: a short quiz, run by its assistant Jerky, suggests live models based on your answers, and the shows run on JerkmateLive, a white-label platform that Jerkmate says is powered by Streamate. You get the depth of a big network with a personal shortcut on top, and every price is in Gold at 1 Gold = $1.

How cam sites work, from first click to private show
The flow is much the same on every live cam site:
- Confirm your age. Every site is 18+. In some regions you go through a quick check: on our visit from France, Chaturbate offered Yoti, an Incode face scan or AgeKey, and said the check takes under 1 minute.
- Browse the live rooms. Every thumbnail is a live stream. Watching is usually free.
- Create an account. Usually a username and password, sometimes an email. Jerkmate’s sign-up has 3 steps (email, password, card); Chaturbate says “No credit card needed”.
- Get some currency. Tokens, credits or Gold, bought in packs. Bigger packs usually give more per dollar.
- Play. Tip in the public room, control a toy, join a group show, or go private. Timed shows are billed per second or per minute at a rate shown before you start.
- Leave when you are done. Exiting the show ends a per-minute session.
Two details are worth knowing. First, “private” comes in several shades: on Jerkmate, other members can watch a standard private while an exclusive is one-on-one; MyFreeCams sells a TruePrivate that keeps spies out. Second, many sites let you keep the memory: Chaturbate records private shows by default and gives the buyer a perpetual license to rewatch, MyFreeCams lets you rewatch privates free in its Archives, and Stripchat has a “Recordable Privates” filter.
Tokens, credits and Gold, made simple
Every site has its own currency, and once you know how it maps to dollars, the rest is easy.
Tokens are the most common. Their dollar value depends on the pack size:
- Stripchat gives bigger discounts on bigger packs, “up to 30% and more”, and runs an hourly draw for 50 free tokens. Third-party summaries report about $0.11 per token on small packs down to about $0.08 on large ones.
- Chaturbate converts money on deposit to tokens. Third-party sites report 100 tokens for $10.99, with the per-token price falling from about $0.11 to about $0.08 on bigger packs.
- BongaCams showed its packs in euros to our visit: 27 tokens for 2.99 EUR, 60 tokens for 4.99 EUR, 140 tokens for 9.99 EUR and 370 tokens for 24.99 EUR.
- MyFreeCams charges everyone the same package prices in US dollars, with a small discount on larger packs, and your first purchase makes you a lifetime Premium member.
Credits are LiveJasmin’s currency, bought from a “Get Credits” link, with Hot Deals that discount a performer’s per-minute price for a limited time.
Gold is Jerkmate’s currency and the easiest to read: 1 Gold = $1, so a rate in Gold per minute is a rate in dollars per minute.
Show types and what they cost
Rates are per minute (sometimes billed by the second) and are posted before you start. Here are the published figures:
- MyFreeCams: a private is 60 tokens per minute, or 1 token per second; a TruePrivate is 80; spy mode 20; a group show 10, starting once at least 3 members ask. Club shows are free per minute for members of that model’s club.
- BongaCams: spy 15 tokens per minute, group 30, private 60 and full-private 90, all billed by the second.
- Chaturbate: each broadcaster sets a rate, and the footer filters group privates into brackets of 6, 12-18, 30-42, 60-72 and 90+ tokens a minute.
- Stripchat: model-set rates per second or per minute, with homepage brackets of 8-12, 16-24, 32-60 and 90+ tk. Group shows, spy on privates and ticket shows are all on the menu.
- Cams.com: each model sets a per-minute price and shows it before you accept.
- Jerkmate: each model posts her per-minute rate for private, exclusive and Cam2Cam time, Gold Shows have a fixed price, and booked blocks earn 5% off 15 minutes, 10% off 30, 15% off 45 and 20% off 60.
For CamSoda, third-party reviews report private rates of 6 to 120 tokens per minute and packs starting at 50 tokens for $5.99.
The features that make cams so much fun
This is where cam sites leave every other kind of adult entertainment behind.
Cam2Cam. Turn on your webcam and the performer sees you. Stripchat had about 6,700 models available under its Video Call (Cam2Cam) filter when we looked. Jerkmate offers it per minute in Gold, LiveJasmin calls it Video Call and adds two-way audio, MyFreeCams lets members start their own webcam and pick who sees it, and Cams.com offers Cam-to-Cam in Free, Private, Nude and Party Chat.
Interactive toys. Your tip makes her toy react, live. Stripchat has an “Interactive Toy” category, Jerkmate’s Live Vibe lets you control a model’s vibrator with Gold, and LiveJasmin uses Kiiroo toys in private and VIP Shows.
VR. Stripchat’s VR Cams section had 136 rooms live when we checked, viewable in the browser with a headset.
Group and goal shows. Jerkmate’s Gold Shows and LiveJasmin’s VIP Shows let the whole room fund a goal and share a full performance. MyFreeCams group shows start once 3 members ask.
Voice and translation. BongaCams lets you write or talk by voice in Private and Full-private. LiveJasmin offers real-time voice translation in Exclusive Private, plus a chat translator.
Loyalty perks. LiveJasmin’s Club Elite has 7 ranks, from Crush at 15 points a month to Eros at 50,000, and higher ranks unlock perks such as Exclusive Private at Casanova.

A few more details. Stripchat says it has more than 100,000 models and showed about 9,650 live when we looked; Jerkmate claims more than 35k models every day; BongaCams showed about 2,500 online. Stripchat offers an installable web app, MyFreeCams runs a mobile site and web app, and Cams.com has a mobile-optimized site, so all three work nicely on your phone.
What you get for free on cam sites
Free cam sites are free to watch, and some are surprisingly generous. MyFreeCams lets guests view every room without an account. Chaturbate needs no card to register. Stripchat runs an hourly draw for 50 free tokens. BongaCams gives registered users free access to more explicit content than guests see. Cams.com lets guests watch Free Chat, and a free Basic account lets you join in.
The free tier is perfect for discovering performers, soaking up the atmosphere and chatting. Spending starts when you want a private room, a spy view, toy control or Cam2Cam, and that is exactly when the experience gets personal.

What is the difference between tokens and credits?
